While 2022 was absolutely stacked with amazing albums, it also had its fair share of amazing EP's as well and cutting them down to a mere ten was no easy task :
1.) Allt - The Seed of Self-Destruction :
Modern metalcore meets thall done right ; captivating songwriting, beautiful orchestrations and crushing vocals, riffs and production.
What more do you need?
2.) Chamber - Carved In Stone :
Chamber's 2020 sophomore, Cost of Sacrifice was already an incredibly good highlight in the realms of chaotic hardcore, but on this EP, Chamber offer three absolutely next-level tracks displaying a massive step-up on all fronts, holy fuck!
3.) Fromjoy - away :
Glitch, breakcore, ambient, drum&bass and even vaporwave meet chaotic hardcore/mathcore.
Absolutely love the fresh mix of styles on this release and its closing track daedalus is among my favourite songs of 2022.
4.) Irist - Gloria :
A mix of post-metal and sludge hardcore that could move mountains (or splinter them), wow!
5.) Liturgy - As The Blood of God Bursts The Veins of Time :
Super weird, original and abrasive and yet somehow...beautiful and cathartic in the strangest of ways, this is definitely a unique piece of work which I surprised myself in coming back to often.
6.) Fawn Limbs - Oleum :
The year wouldn't have been complete without a Fawn Limbs release and they only ask for five minutes of your time to remind you why they're one of the best acts to combine absurdly chaotic, relentless agression and adventurous experimentation.
7.) END & Cult Leader - Gather & Mourn :
A power couple if there ever was one; this split is just sheer power, aggression and filth.
8.) Joshua Travis - NO REST :
A pioneer of dowtuned mathy extreme music at work, this EP boasts some super fun guitar work and great guest features.
My only complaint lies with the production that doesn't always do justice to everything that's going on.
9.) fallfiftyfeet - Lonely If You Go :
One of the best up and coming melodic mathcore (emo math?) bands back at it again with some of their best work so far imo.
10). Despised Icon - DÉTERRÉ :
Only reason this is ranked last is because these are previously unreleased tracks from the band's early days, all the way back in 2004 and so technically not really a 2022 release but goddamn do these tracks SLAP; if you needed a reminder as to why Despised Icon became such an influential deathcore band, here is your answer.
