I only very, very recently found out about Irist due to the fact that they were touring Europe this autumn with Elder and Pallbearer. Because of that, I was expecting something stylistically similar to those two aforementioned bands going into this EP, only to get slapped in the face right from the get-go by fast-paced, chaotic and sludge hardcore-infused post-metal, instantly bringing the likes of The Ocean Collective, Cult of Luna and even prime Gojira to mind.
Irist don't take any half measures and not a single second is wasted on "Gloria" with every single track going straight for the kill and showcasing the band's capabilities in terms of performances and songwriting as well as the various influences from which they draw their devastating and energetic style of post-metal which also retains the cinematic and atmospheric qualities of the sub-genre.
Judging from this EP alone, I can see why Nuclear Blast would want them on their roster and I think we can expect to hear a lot more from Irist in the future as they carve themselves a name amongst the currently rich and thriving post-metal scene.
