These were the most iconic album arts off 2022 from my perspective, in no particular order :
. Celeste - Assassin(e)s (Mira Nedyalkova) :
Striking photography foreshadowing the discomforting violence that exists within this album.
. Blood Incantation - Timewave Zero (Don Dixon) :
A cosmic desolate landscape at the edge of time and our universe that translates the sense of wander and resolute calm carried out by the music.
. Grayscale Season - Do You Like Violence (Robert Merrick) :
Perfectly exemplifies the contrast of smoothness and violence tackled by both the album's themes and music.
Love that colour grading too.
. Wounded Touch - Americanxiety (Luna Marbh) :
One of the most visually striking artworks this year imo, perfectly capturing the sharp agression of Wounded Touch's metallic hardcore.
. GGGOLDDD - This Shame Should Not Be Mine ( Szilveszter Makó) :
Portrait album covers can be hit or miss but this one is so full of charisma and displays both the bravery of facing one's traumas but also the weight they can inflict upon one's shoulders.
. Secret Gardens - Everbloom ( Laura Murray) :
Still baffled that this isn't a painting but a photograph.
Colorful and comforting, just like the music it showcases.
. Conjurer - Pàthos (Jean Luc Almond) :
Existential dread, mortality and decay; there couldn't have been a more fitting cover for Pàthos; one of the most distinctive album covers of 2022.
. Cave In - Heavy Pendulum (Richey Beckett) :
The shapes, the lines, the colours, the subjects create such a mesmerizing ensemble that leaves me in awe every time I see this album cover pass by.
. Ithaca - They Fear Us ( Martin Wisniewska/ Kathryn Lewis) :
Can't remember the last time I saw a band photo as an album cover but this is how it's done. They fear you Ithaca, you icons.
. Wormrot - Hiss ( Jon Chan) :
The sense of uncanny foreboding and menacing disquiet that emanates from this artwork is incredibly powerful.
Very fitting artwork.
. Holy Fawn - Dimensional Bleed ( Helena Sokolova) :
A dark sense of mystical wander which suits Holy Fawn's thematic concepts of parallel universes and lifetimes.
. Fallujah - Empyrean (Peter Mohrbacher) :
Fallujah call upon Peter Mohrbacher's artistic universe of cosmic surrealism and the result is absolutely mesmerizing, capturing the triumphant sense of ascenion that lies within Empyrean.
