Top Death Metal Albums of 2022

Surprisingly one of the hardest lists to make, this year was filled with amazing death metal and I was gutted to leave out some of the albums that didn't make the top 10 (looking at you Kardashev, please get a better producer) :

1.) Soreption - Jord :

By far the most fun and enjoyment I've gotten out of listening to a death metal album this year; Jord is sharp, mechanically precise and sounds amazing!

2.) Revocation - Netherheaven :

Pretty much a masterclass in death metal riffage, Netherheaven is filled with memorable guitar work and gnarly hooks.

3.) Morgue Supplier - Inevitability :

The band's Bandcamp bio says it all :

"No gimmicks. No trends. Just pure, from the soul, intensity rendered at an expert level." Yup, checks out. (Rip Mariusz Lewandowski).

4.) Fallujah - Empyrean :

A triumphant return to their signature style; such a unique presence in the realms of death metal!

5.) Mass Worship - Portal Tombs :

A bit of an oddball on this list, but their mix of modern, beefy and sludgy hardcore with more conventional death metal is genuinely refreshing! Nasty stuff.

6.) Psycroptic - Divine Council :

Tech-death masters at work doing what they do best, what more is there to say?

7.) Dischordia - Tryptich :

Beautifully filthy and dissonant progressive death metal from the underground; holy shit does the drumming go hard on this.

8.) Aethereus - Leiden :

Damn, what a good year for technical death metal both from established acts and more underground bands; among which Aethereus definitely deserve a spotlight with their theatrical spin on the genre.

9.) Black Fucking Cancer - Procreate Inverse :

So underground and br00tal that you can't even tag them on social media. More on the traditional, old-school side of things; if you're not sold by the band name already I don't know what else to tell you.

10.) Persefone - Metanoia :

A bit of an oddball too; Persefone offer an epic journey of progressive melodic death metal on Metanoia. Not super fond of the production style but the musicianship and intricate progressive song structures along with the great use of guest performances more than makes up for it.
