Label : Dark Trail Records

FFO : Daughters, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Girl Band

"i don't feel anything" was my introduction to the "noise math punks" Willzyx.

After a brief unsettling instrumental opener, as soon as the band kicks in I am struck with two things :

First of all, how good the drums and bass sound on this project and how much I enjoy the way they've been engineered.

And second, I feel like I'm listening to Daughters covering some of their early material but with their current sound, which I absolutely love.

The weird, paranoia-inducing octaved dissonant guitar tones that sound like they're coming straight out of "You Won't Get What You Want" and the raw, theatrical vocals that teeter between gnarly yells and raspy spoken-word are mainly what gives this EP its "Daughters feel".

However, that is not to say that Willzyx are sounding like a Daughters cover band here.

Although the influence is palpable and the comparison hard to avoid, the band has their own thing going with their experimental style of mathcore that borrows elements from noise rock and no wave while also infusing everything with layers of creepy electronic sound design.

Between this interesting combination of styles and influences, the captivating performances and the engineering that perfectly captures the unbridled chaotic energy of the band; "i don't feel anything" is quite a unique listening experience and an absolute delight for anyone who likes a good dose of experimental weirdness laced with the energy and spirit of punk to their heavy music.
