Weal's biggest strength on this record for me is atmosphere.
The choice of sounds and the manner in which they are arranged create very vast and smooth textures of sound in which it is easy to get lost in and the guitar and bass tone play a great part in accomplishing this.
I wasn't necessarily too crazy about the vocals however.
There were times even, where I thought some of the tracks could have benefitted from being purely instrumental since the vocals didn't bring all that much to the song and even took away some of that captivating atmosphere.
The low-key style of the male vocals worked really well with the hypnotic atmosphere in some places but it would have been interesting to hear more dynamics going on in that area to spice it up a bit rather than having pretty much the same style of delivery throughout the whole record.
However the harmonising with the female vocal worked really well and brought a nice breath of fresh air to it all.
Overall this is a very nice listen with great atmosphere and composition with a slightly cinematic touch to it.
Definitely the kind of music I would enjoy listening to on a long walk or drive and just phase out while listening to it.
