Taking a much needed break from all the heavy, gnarly, growly genres for softer sounds :
1.) A.A. Williams - As The Moon Rests :
Slow-paced and heavily melancholic but my oh my are the arrangements on this album gorgeous and beautifully produced; A.A.Williams is rapidly becoming one of the most charismatic voices in alternative music.
2.) And So I Watch You From Afar - Jettison :
Trading their usually angular and energetic math-rock for cinematic, narrative post-rock ; Jettison feels like a movie score and will embark you upon a vivid and contemplative journey.
3.) Nordic Giants - Symbiosis :
Another immensely cinematic entry on this list; the UK duo's ability to bring mental landscapes to life is both impressive and enjoyable.
4.) Lost in Kiev - Rupture :
Teetering on the edge of post-metal, Rupture offers a simultaneously spacey and heavy cocktail of post-rock that is extremely tasteful.
5.) Weal - Undivided :
On their sophomore album, the underground danish post-rock outfit vastly improve upon everything that made their last year's debut interesting.
6.) Oiseaux-Tempête - WHAT ON EARTH (Que Diable) :
By far the most out-there entry on this list, this album is a compelling experimental mix of avant-garde, electronic and world music. Very creative and original stuff!
7.) We Were Heading North - Three :
Following the footsteps of pioneers of the genre, Three offers dynamic, well executed post-rock that doesn't overstay its welcome.
8.) Thought Trials - Full of Sound and Fury, Signifying Nothing :
If your album title is a Shakespeare quote, I'm already interested.
Surprisingly multi-dimensional, this record dips its toes in territories you don't hear much of in post-rock, such as hints of screamo and black metal.
9.) Oh Hiroshima - Myriad :
A bit underwhelmed by this one given the band's reputation and previous outputs.
The vocals don't really bring much to the table and kind of dampen the experience in my opinion. Still an enjoyable listen but I had higher expectations.
10.) God Is An Astronaut - Somnia :
The legendary GIAA give a selection of their softer tracks an ambient makeover. Only reason this is ranked so low is because it's not exactly new material.
