1). secret gardens - "Tundra" :
Perhaps the most intimate and personal post-rock record I've ever listened to;
"Tundra" can feel as low-key as it can sound huge and cinematic and has nothing to envy to big names of the genre despite the small-scale, underground nature of the project.
A truly cathartic listen.
2). The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die - "Illusory Walls" :
This album felt like cinema in aural form, with a start, an end, and a cohesive story to follow and get immersed into, in a way that reminded me of The Dear Hunter's "Acts" in the best way possible.
Great arrangements and blunt, moving lyricism; "Illusory Walls" is the kind of album that leaves a lasting impression.
3). MONO - "Pilgrimage of the Soul" :
MONO are masters at crafting melodramatic and introspective post-rock and this album further solidifies that claim.
4). Those Who Ride With Giants - "Forlorn" :
This album felt like embarking on an adventure of self-discovery, which is one of the traits I often look for in this genre; a very immersive listen.
5). God Is An Astronaut - "Ghost Tapes #10" :
This album sees the band putting their signature epic, dreamy and melancholic sound slightly to the side in favour of heavier and bleaker atmospheres that lean more into post-metal territory.
6). Mogwai - "As the Love Continues" :
Continuing to infuse post-rock with electronics, this album felt like witnessing a live session of improvisation which comes with its ups and downs.
7). Weal - "Calm" :
Some very nice arrangements and rich guitar textures, the only downside is some of the vocal performances that could have been better executed in my opinion.
8). Dimwind- "Slow Wave Violence" :
A well produced debut album with good ideas from this underground project who have an energetic and heavy style of post-rock.
However, I did feel as though the album dragged on a bit after a while.
9). Prime Alone - "The Essence Lies in the Depth" :
Nothing exactly groundbreaking but a very enjoyable mix of post-rock and post-metal nonetheless.
10). Dead Melodies - "Fabled Machines of Old" :
More ambient than post-rock, this record will pull you in a world of its own if you have the patience for it.
