Top Post-Metal Albums of 2021

1). LLNN - "Unmaker" :

Yeah, this thing could crush asteroids.

By far the heaviest post-metal record I've heard in a good while; "Unmaker" is just pure, primal heaviness of colossal proportions.

2). Hippotraktor - "Meridian" :

Never thought post-metal and djent would work so well together, or that it could even be a thing to begin with but this fantastic debut album is here to prove it.

3). Converge & Chelsea Wolfe - "Bloodmoon" :

An unexpected collaboration that results in harsh, sludgy post-metal with a mystical atmosphere. Definitely an interesting artistic turn for the legendary Converge.

4). Kardashev - "The Baring of Shadows" (⚠️re-release including instrumental version⚠️) :

Blurring the lines between post-metal, prog, death metal and blackgaze;

"The Baring of Shadows" is as heavy as it is melancholic and has a tremendous sense of atmosphere.

(Yes, this is technically an EP which was re-released in 2021 with the instrumentals, woops.)

5). Year Of No Light - "Consolamentum" :

Grim post-metal for grim times.

There is little joy to be found in this slow-burning, somber odyssey into darkness.

6). Shy,Low - "Snake Behind the Sun" :

Somewhere in between post-metal and post-rock; this album can be as melodically uplifting and beautiful as much as it can pack a strong, energetic punch.

7). Amenra - "De Doorn" :

Amenra delve even deeper into the dark spiritual nature of their music on this new record. Although I wasn't too fond of its pacing, it definitely is an album that captivates you and requires your undivided attention in order to hit the mark.

8). Bossk - "Migration" :

I was a tad disappointed by the focus on more ambient elements which made it feel as though the album lacked memorable moments.

However, when it does decide to strike, "Migration" does it fantastically well.
