1). Fawn Limbs - "Darwin Falls" :
Casting aside any limitations, far away from genre pigeonholing;
the artistical vision of Fawn Limbs and their desire to experiment takes on fascinating new proportions in this bleak epic.
2). Lingua Ignota - "SINNER GET READY" :
Setting aside the metal influences has only made Lingua's music even more unsettling and vulnerable. A harrowing experience that hits even harder now in light of recent news.
3). black midi - "Cavalcade" :
Jaw-dropping in both its technicality and strangeness, "Cavalcade" takes experimental weirdness to theatrical heights.
4). The Armed - "ULTRAPOP" :
Is it hardcore? Is it mathcore? Is it pop? Who the fuck is even playing in the band? Who cares; its loud, confrontational, weird, and really fucking fun.
5). Plebeian Grandstand - "Rien Ne Suffit" :
Existential despair conveyed through an odd mix of grind, death metal and mathcore riddled with deep hits of bass and industrial electronics.
6). The Body - "I've Seen All I Need To See" :
One of the most oppressive, desolate and terrifying things I've heard all year.
7). Bicurious - "(re)constructed" :
Some really fun and creative guitar work builds up massive walls of sound so that the drums can slap you in the face with them.
8). Squid - "Bright Green Field" :
Tense and intense; Squid simultaneously channel krautrock, noise rock and no-wave on this compelling album.
9). Danny Elfman - "Big Mess" :
As big of a bloated mess as this album can be, when it shines you can't help but sit back and admire the work of an eccentric mad genius.
