1). Cult of Luna - "The Raging River" :
A continuation of "A Dawn To Fear" 's slow-burning bleakness; the atmosphere of this could-be record is absolutely astounding in true Cult of Luna fashion.
2). 30 Seconds GO! - "A Self Help Guide To Your Nervous Breakdown" :
An EP that sounds as wild as its cover looks; this thing is filled with memorable, fun and genuinely gnarly moments.
3).156/Silence - "Don't Hold Your Breath" :
Possibly the most visceral-sounding band in hardcore as of now; this EP expands on "Irrational Pull" 's sound with an added sense of melancholia conveyed by hints of more melodical elements.
4). Serling - "The James Bevis Chronicles" :
Definetly up there in the heaviest releases of the year.
What an absolutely face-melting debut that promises incredible things to come!
5). Willzyx - "i don't feel anything" :
The unpredictable chaos of mathcore coupled with the artsy roughness of noise rock.
If you cannot stomach listening to Daughters anymore, keep Willzyx in your sights.
6). Reflections - "Silhouette" :
Pretty much an experiment on how heavy a band can get with the help of the Vildhjarta bois. Thall.
7). Knocked Loose - "A Tear In The Fabric Of Life" :
Somehow, Knocked Loose manage to sound even more pissed off and evil in this horror-tinged conceptual EP.
8). Weston Super Maim - "180° Degree Murder" :
A 15 minute track that twists and turns its way through angular rythms and beefy riffs, reaching an epic finale. Another fantastic debut to put on your radars!
9). The Devil Wars Prada - "ZII" :
The sequel to a much beloved piece of now staple metalcore.
Contrary to the usual trend when it comes to sequels: it's anything but a flop.
10). Emma Ruth Rundle & Thou - "The Helm of Sorrow" :
A collaboration that worked so well, one album just wasn't enough.
Very glad we got more of those satysfing contrasts between ERR's forlorn, soothing voice and Thou's gritty, sludgy doom metal.
