Can you tell black metal isn't the genre I'm biggest on ? But hey, at least this year's list is more trve than last year but still not enough to please the elitists out there...and I'll gladly keep it that way :
1.) Celeste - Assassin(e)s :
Black metal meets post-metal and massive Gojira-like riffs over the course of an album as harsh musically as it is thematically, painting stomach-churning scenes of abuse in a way that is both crude and poetic.
2.) Falls of Rauros - Key To A Vanishing Future :
Equal parts melodic, atmospheric and blistering ; Falls of Rauros display songwriting and world-building skills that capture the imagination.
3.) Liminal Shroud - All Virtues Ablaze :
Relentless progressive black metal which embarks the listener upon a tumultuous odyssey.
4.) White Ward - False Light :
Progressive and experimental with some fantastic atmosphere-building and memorable saxophone passages; however I feel as though its monolithic length dampens the novelty brought on by the band's experiments.
5.) Wiegedood - There's Always Blood At the End of the Road :
Absolutely vicious from start to finish, this albums leaps at the throat of anyone who dares play it and doesn't let go for a single second; however I did find its formula to be a bit too repetitive at times.
6.) Blut Aus Nord - Disharmonium - Undreamable Abysses :
Spooky lovecratian atmospheric black metal that will drag you into a troubled sleep filled with visions of indescribable horrors...However its potential for actually putting you to sleep for lack of vehemence is a potential reality so be warned.
