The release of their single "Holy Roller" made waves in the metalcore scene last year, and ever since then, Spiritbox have gained more and more traction, building an increasing amount of hype as they put out singles throughout the year before unveiling their debut album "Eternal Blue".

Now, whether or not the album is worthy of all the hype is entirely up to you.

As far as I'm concerned, "Eternal Blue" is a solid modern metalcore album and what I like the most about it is how well balanced everything is.

There's just the right amount of heaviness and technicality to keep prog-heads and hardcore kids entertained and to counteract the radio-friendly catchiness that makes "Eternal Blue" a vastly accessible record all-around.

The performances are impeccable and vocalist Courtney LaPlante definitely steals the show with the versatility of her vocal techniques and the emotion behind her voice.

Add to that a very clear and clean production style that brings out the best of both the heavy and melodic moments on the album along with some fresh sounding electronics and it's no wander Spiritbox have acquired their place under the spotlight of mainstream heavy music press.

Personally, this specific style of metalcore has kind of lost its grip on me which is mainly why I think I won't be coming back to this album very often (if at all), and although I enjoyed listening to it, it just didn't grab me all that much aside from a few moments here and there.

Nonetheless, its quality is undeniable and some of the songs on this are going to sound massive during live shows, which is something to look forward to.

Plus it's nice to see bands such as Spiritbox reach mainstream appeal and shake up the genre as a whole a little bit.
