I became aware of SeeYouSpaceCowboy with their album/compilation "Songs For The Firing Squad" released back in early 2019 and it's amazing to see how fast the band has gained notoriety in just a couple years with their revival and renewal of MySpace-era melodic metalcore clashing with heavily dissonant mathcore.
It's equally amazing to see how each of their releases so far has seen an important step-up in quality when the bar was already set high from their beginnings.
"The Romance of Affliction" is, in my opinion, the most concise and by far the best material the band has put out thus far.
In equal parts melodic, catchy and introspective as it can be relentless in its chaos and agression with some very creative, piercing and pummeling guitar riffs : "The Romance of Affliction" comes from a very real and personal place of brutal vulnerability and the 40 minutes of music on this album convey this remarkably.
Nostalgic yet distinctly original, musically fun yet lyrically touching and filled with attitude and charisma on top of being heavy as fuck ; SeeYouSpaceCowboy have offered us an absolutely stellar slab of sassy, emotive technical heavy music that should make its way to many an end-of-year album toplist for any respectable fan of "core" music.
