I had somehow missed any PR surrounding "Insurmountable" so it came as a complete surprise when I found out that Primitive Man had unleashed a new offering of psychologically crushing doom metal upon us.
Keeping things rather surprisingly short once again just like on their previous, more experimental 2020 effort "Immersion" with only four tracks clocking in at a total of thirty-eight minutes which include a cover of Smashing Pumpkins' "Quiet" that has been given the Primitive Man treatment; aka : slow, brutal disfigurement.
Few bands are able to convey the crushing weight of existential dread as horrifyingly well as Primitive Man are able to.
The Denver trio have once again succeeded in doing what they do best, and that is offering some of the heaviest, foulest, most violent doom metal you can hang your ears upon, only to be shackled and weighed down into a pit of despair as black as the tar the band sonically drowns you in.
