This was my first time listening to the Texan mathcore trio, Mothman but as always with Dark Trail Records, I know that I can go in blind into any release and come out discovering something new to enjoy that will satisfy my never-ending thirst for some seriously kickass chaotic underground heavy music.
On their new album "Cancer Withdrawal", Mothman exist within a wonderfully unhinged and brutal balance between mathcore's spidery, dissonant technicality and grindcore's fast-paced bludgeoning violence while still leaving enough space for the hardcore punk origins of both subgenres to shine through.
Needless to say that makes for quite an intense combination whose anger serves to deliver a message of dissatisfaction and disillusion with the ways of our world.
Although it passes by fairly quickly with its twelve songs and twenty-five minutes of run-time, "Cancer Withdrawal" is filled with killer riffs and memorable moments.
Fans of chaotic heavy music, don't miss out!
