For some reason, I wasn't expecting a lot going into this album and yet I have been pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the vocals and the forlorn, melancholic atmosphere that this record has.

I've seen the term "deathgaze" being applied to these guys and I can definitely see why since this record offers a balanced meeting between the aggression and technicality of death metal, the rampant crushing atmospheres of post-metal and the cold melodical aspects of atmospheric black metal tinged with the dreaminess of shoegaze.

The ceaseless pummeling style of drumming, the clean vocals, choice of melodies and song structures are very reminescent of Ne Obliviscaris in my opinion, but never go as far as feeling like an uninspired imitation of the band and instead has its own narrative and distinguishable qualities (the vocals are the highlight for me).

The only negative things I would have to point out is that I feel like there is too much high-end in the drum mix (maybe that's just me or my headphones idk) and I was surprised by how short (25 minutes) the album is, given how this subgenre usually goes for the "long epic" route.

I would have definitely enjoyed having more time to immerse myself in the album's atmosphere.

Nonetheless, it still is a very enjoyable listen with great performances and a lot of character to it.
