Three years after the disbanding of the mighty Dillinger Escape Plan and after venturing into the world of dark synthwave with his other project The Black Queen, "Child Soldier : Creator of God" is Greg Puciato's debut as a solo artist.

Although the dark synthwave sound Puciato has been working on with The Black Queen can be found peppered throughout, this record explores a pretty vast palette of soundscapes and moods, including genres such as industrial, noise, punk, shoegaze, doom and even hardcore to a certain degree.

Which is actually something I've seen the album being criticised for, as having no real direction or defined identity.

Something I would strongly disagree with since, despite the changes in genre from track to track this lengthy album offers, it never feels abrupt or forced and it appears to have its own theme that runs throughout its one hour of play time.

I also don't really understand how a solo artist's debut album could be blamed for experimenting with different sounds and not following any clear direction especially when that artist happens to be Greg Puciato who is quite known for experimenting with different sounds.

Overall I found this record to be very enjoyable even though there were a few tracks that I cared less for than others and I think it could have benefited from being a shorter project, but it does have a lot of memorable moments and interesting dynamics going on.
