30 Seconds Go! are a mathcore outfit based in Maine (U.S) who hadn't released any material since the close of the 2000's and decided to come back with a bang by releasing an EP that sounds in equal parts nostalgic and contemporary.

Their personnel includes some familiar faces, with Brandon Doughty and Caleb Marsters respectively on drum and guitar duties who both form the Twilight Zone-inspired mathcore duo Serling which I recently featured on the page.

The nostalgic element of the band's sound on this EP for me is mainly carried by the vocals, who have this MySpace-era sasscore vibe to them along with a very distinct style of delivery that immediately gives such a strong sense of character and identity to the band's music.

One look at the song titles and you already know that you can also expect that "don't take it too seriously", ironical mood that comes with the genre.

But then, on the other side of the coin, you have this very modern, beefy guitar work that hits like a damn truck thanks to the contemporary style of production that has become a must for chunky mathcore over recent years, and the sheer heaviness of it all kind of forces you to take the music on this EP way more seriously than its tongue-in-cheek song titles.

Both sides of this coin compliment each other extremely well. Add to that some proggy (almost jazzy) elements here and there to spark things up and keep things flowing nicely from track to track, some staple mathcore wonkiness and two captivating vocal features from both Sean Richmond (Arsonists Get All The Girls) and Robbie Smith (Heavy Heavy Low Low) and you've got yourself quite the entertaining and engaging listen from start to finish.

Overall, "A Self Help Guide To Your Nervous Breakdown" is a cohesive, creative and just really fun piece of heavy music that just leaves me wanting to hear more!
