2020's "Bloodletting" was my introduction to Mountaineer's softer approach to the usually gritty and sludgy post-metal which they combine with the slow-paced, pensive and deeply melancholic atmospheres of shoegaze.
"Giving Up The Ghost" is a continuation of that sound, although this time around it feels much more condensed and focused on the "cleaner" aspects of the band's music, which has its ups and downs as far as I'm concerned.
I do have the impression that "Bloodletting" flowed better and had a broader "palette" to be enjoyed, however, this new record could prove to be a very good entry point for newcomers to the band who seek refuge within post-metal's more appeasing side of the sonic spectrum.
