"Indwell" is an unforgiving cohesive mixture of extreme genres such as deathcore, mathcore, brutal slamming death metal, hardcore and even hints of industrial and nu metal (strong Marilyn Manson and Slipknot influences can respectively be found on the tracks "They Stare Back" and "Bed Full of Snakes").
I absolutely love the high pitched bouts of screeching, banshee-like vocals that pepper this already very noisy and sonically unrelenting album.
There's so much aggression going on in this project between the relentless drumming, dissonant guitar slides, chug-heavy breakdowns, visceral vocals and creepy distorted vocal samples that I honestly feel like Methwitch is pushing a rotating saw against my skull throughout the entirety of the album. And I mean that in the best, adrenaline-pumping way possible.
Despite the absolutely hellish nature of the soundscape of this album, the quality of the mix allows every sonic element to stand out, making it a very satisfying listen rather than being a messy saturated puddle of dissonance. Plus, I was absolutely mind-blown to learn that Methwitch is in fact a solo project! Fair fucking play sir.
My one gripe with this LP is the occasional "nu metal" clean vocals that feel slightly out of place to me, the only exception being on the closing track "Exhale (Last Breath)" where the clean vocals sound more organic and better fit the song's structure.
Other than that, I am incredibly impressed by this album and I cannot recommend it enough to fans of extreme music. Especially fans of the likes of Frontierer and Brand of Sacrifice.
