It's always a bit tough to write about instrumental post-rock since on the surface, a lot of post-rock seems to have pretty much the same formula from band to band and what makes a band special in this genre is the tiny details that the bands implement in their songwriting and the way the tracks progress from the first second of playtime to the last.

Here in this instance, with Land of Fire's "Petrichor", what I enjoyed the most and what made this twin track, half an hour long project stand out in my opinion was the stark contrast between the first and second track.

The first track "Space" has this very typical hazy post-rock sound with beautiful, nostalgic-sounding lead guitar melodies that build-up into an explosive finale.

While the second track, "Petrichor" takes an unexpected turn and sounds more like playful, uplifting math-rock rather than introspective post-rock and the inclusion of an accoustic folk guitar helps the track set itself apart from the first ten minutes of the EP before returning into both sorrowful and thundering post-rock territory midway through the song.

I would most definitely recommend this EP to anyone who is fond of post-rock.

It may not be the most innovative instrumental post-rock out there but it most certainly is very enjoyable and I'll definitely be coming back to this EP from time to time!
