I've never followed August Burns Red too closely so I went into this album with very little expectations, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised by the fact that "Death Below" isn't as formulaic as one could expect in such a saturated genre, even boasting some interesting experiments with death metal and black metal influences in places as well as some noteworthy guest spots, and despite being almost an hour long, the album doesn't overstay its welcome or repeat itself and flows rather well from start to finish.
